Park City Women's Business Network (PCWBN)has accepted the nominations for the 2016 Woman of the Year award.
PCWBN recognizes business women throughout Park City who routinely inspire others, make the community a better place, possess impressive intelligence, commitment, talent, and compassion. Each year, many women are nominated for the Park City Woman of the Year distinction, an annual recognition of a standout woman in business, created in memory of Candy Erickson, a Park City Councilwoman and steadfast PCWBN participant who passed away in 2011.
Candidates can include local women in any field of business who contribute to the community through their work and/or personal involvement. PCWBN does not limit the criteria to women who own their own business or hold executive-level positions. Rather, nominations are accepted for women in any stage of their career, who deserve to be recognized for their accomplishments and contributions. Past winners include Brooke Hontz (2014), Randi Jo Taurel (2013), Insa Riepen (2012) and Becky Kearns (2011). A variety of factors are taken into consideration when nominees are evaluated, including community and philanthropic service.
This year's Woman of the Year award will be presented at PCWBN's May member meeting.

An award-winning wine educator and Executive Sommelier, Kirsten has taught hundreds of people easy and fun ways to approach and enjoy wine.
Turning her passion into a career, Kirsten opened the Fox School of Wine in 2008. The school offers public classes – locally known as “educational happy hour” – along with wine events for corporate and leisure groups.
In 2012, Kirsten opened the Culinary Wine Institute (CWI) to deliver online, multi-media, wine-sales videos and certification to the restaurant industry. CWI won a prestigious Aurora Award Gold Medal for excellence in non-entertainment-oriented video (along with Disney, Microsoft, and Cisco Systems, among others.) Kristal is an experienced attorney who recently moved and became licensed in Utah. She devotes her practice at Bowman-Carter Law to estate planning and administration as well as business
formation. She thoroughly enjoys advising clients and finding the right solutions
to meet their needs which are driven by their desires, goals and financial circumstances
and takes great satisfaction in helping people complete an important task that many
often find daunting.
She has also generously donated her time to help the Park City Women's Business Network file for 5013c status. This has been a goal of the organization for many years but the process is lengthly. We are confidant that with Kristal's guidance we will complete this task.
We are so thrilled to announce that we raised $370 at the July meeting. This is the third month in a row we have seen numbers like this and it is all due to the generosity of our member hosts, opportunity donors, caterers, and presenters who give their time to our organization so we can maximize our fundraising efforts.

I've been a retail pharmacist for over 20 years because I love the interaction it affords with people and their health concerns.
Soon after receiving my degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, I moved to Colorado to enjoy the recreation of a mountain lifestyle. With the wonderful trails and bike paths in Summit County, CO, I became hooked on cycling and enjoyed participating in the local road and mountain bike racing scene. It was really through competing that I realized the great importance of diet and lifestyle in daily performance, physical as well as mental.
Developing a strong interest in nutrition and a more functional approach to health, I was thrilled when I had the opportunity to be involved with a colleague and friend in opening her compounding pharmacy. I was fascinated by how compounding allows customization and thereby the opportunity to minimize medication side effects and optimize their benefits.
After moving to Park City in 2006 with my husband and two children, I worked for University Pharmacy, and Smiths and RiteAid, but could not get compounding off my mind. I attended comprehensive programs with PCCA (Professional Compounding Centers of America) on compounding technique as well as on Bioidentical Hormone Therapy to be well prepared for my own store.
Opening Alpine Apothecary in early 2010 was the realization of a dream, and it has been an absolute pleasure to meet and work with the wonderful people here in Park City. The focus of our store is compounding, but we also take pride in our natural skincare products and the hand-picked supplements, all from the most reputable of manufacturers. We welcome anyone to stop by, enjoy a cup of healthful tea, and ask questions or simply take a break!
The pcWBN has been a part of the whole journey! Even before we moved from Colorado, I discovered the group online and thought what a great idea it is to gather women in a constructive way, which inevitably also will be fun. Now I am so grateful to the group for the education, support, networking opportunities, and camaraderie it offers to all of us!

Insa holds the equivalent of a bachelor of arts degree in banking from Germany and a bachelor of arts degree from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI in marketing and journalism. She spent 13 years in the automotive industry, in accounting, procurement and national steel sales. She has owned and run her own business (B&B in Germany), worked in various banks and for IBM, Hamburg. She developed education and outreach programs for a municipal waste authority in Southeastern Michigan and taught workshops on a variety of topics from waste reduction, to composting and using native plant material to prevent run off into the Rouge River, MI.
Insa recieved certification from the University of Utah's Nonprofit Academy in Leadership and Management for Nonprofits. As Executive Director at Recycle Utah, she has led the organization in growth of services to residents and businesses in Summit County since 1999. She was a board member of the Utah Non-Profit Association for six years. She was the treasurer of the Uinta Headwaters RC&D Council for four years and a member of the board for over 10 years. Insa served two terms as a board member of the Friends of the Farm, overseeing McPolin Farm in Park City. She is also a member of the Park City Rotary Club, and the chair of the grants committee. Insa is involved in local non profits as a volunteer. She likes going for walks with her "recycled" dog, Dandy. Insa believes strongly that sustainability is everyone's business. She knows that Recycle Utah is empowering people to lead more sustainable lives. Daily.
Most recently, Insa was honored with the 2012 Community Leadership award, given annually by Park City's Leadership program, in addition to receiving the 2012 "Woman of the Year" award from the Park City Women's Business Network.
