Karen Summerhays is a tax accountant. Her firm, The Summerhays Group, offers payroll, bookkeeping and accounting services and they do them all well, but it is the tax work that thrills her. She enjoys tax planning, tax preparation and representing people who are in tax trouble. She reads tax guides for entertainment and teaches tax seminars for leisure. She is a tax nerd.
One would think that with her head in tax files all day she would be an introvert, but she thrives interacting with people. She is always accessible to her clients and the families of her two grown children and she enjoys participating on the Utah MicroEnterprise Loan Fund's credit committee. Karen also enjoys the energy of the Park City Business Women's Network - meeting the business women and learning about their companies.
Karen celebrated two milestones this year, The Summerhays Group's twentieth anniversary and the opening of her second office. She had been meeting several of her Wasatch Back clients at Hugo's in Kimball Junction this summer but she didn't realize how often she was there till the coffee house's regulars started greeting her by name. She intends to be at her new office, in Newpark's Assemble, several days each month.

Melany Palacios graduated from Nutrition Therapy Institute and is a Master Nutrition Therapist who currently resides in Park City, Utah and is the owner of Live Well Love Food. Camilla, originally from Sweden, landed in Utah with two suitcases and a mountain bike to attend the University of Utah in 1996 and like many, fell in love with the ease of access to the outdoors and decided to stay. She moved to Park City in the spring of 2007 after spending a lot of time commuting to and from the valley.
After a successful career in marketing, Camilla is now pursuing full-time entrepreneurship by building a location independent freedom business which allows her to work from anywhere in the world.
Drawing from her own personal experience, she now coaches others on how to do the same so they too can leave the rat race and pursue their passion.

This month's member news spotlight is all about a Park City company called Recoil. Husband and wife duo David and Anne Alden came up with the idea for their business while sitting at their kitchen table with a pile of tangled cords and headphones. So began the process of inventing a product that would attempt to solve a problem that every person with a cell phone, computer or tablet deals with: Tangled Cords. It took more than one year and exactly 494 prototypes to perfect the result: Recoil Automatic Cord Winders. Launched and funded by over 1600% of the goal on Kickstarter, Recoil Winders went viral and sold more than 16,000 winders in 30 days, becoming one of the most successful projects on Kickstarter at that time.
Their team here in Park City, Utah took that momentum and have built a company that is committed to untangling and organizing every pair of headphones, USB cables, phone, computer and tablet chargers, and so many other cords that have been cluttering our desks, cars, luggage, home, and backpacks for too long.
After 3 years of online only sales, they have now landed their very first retail account and it is with a little company called CVS! They will be launching in 6300 CVS/Pharmacy locations in March and they are excited to see how the Recoil products sell in store. Drawing from her experiences in both non-profit management and corporate Human Resources, Jenny Zachry leads CLP Successory to advise nonprofit organizations in capacity building for success. CLP Successory cultivates strategic partnerships with nonprofit organizations through organizational development, human resources, and board relations consulting. This type of capacity building yields a culture that is rewarding to the organization's employees, volunteers, and clientele.
Before moving to a full-time consultancy, Jenny worked as a Human Resources Director in the hospitality industry and as a director in various non-profits handling everything from leadership training, volunteer management, organizational marketing, and program development. While Jenny's professional work is very satisfying, she is also an avid community volunteer. She is very active in youth development as the (volunteer) Association Director of Utah Odyssey of the Mind - an international creative problem solving competition for students from kindergarten through college. She has been involved with Odyssey of the Mind since 1994 and has served in almost every possible volunteer and leadership role within the organization.
Jenny has a Masters in International Administration from the University of Denver and a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science and Spanish from Furman University. She is a Certified Governance Trainer through BoardSource and a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).
