    2017 Woman of the Year

PCWBN recognizes business women throughout Park City who routinely inspire others, make the community a better place, possess impressive intelligence, commitment, talent, and compassion. Each year, many women are nominated for the Park City Woman of the Year distinction, an annual recognition of a standout woman in business, created in memory of Candy Erickson, a Park City Councilwoman and steadfast PCWBN participant who passed away in 2011.

As a member of the PCWBN, we ask that you read the following nominations and vote for the 2017 Woman of the Year Award. The winner will be announced at this year’s event, Backcountry.com Woman of the Year Luncheon presented by Anne Cameron on Tuesday, April 11th, 2017, hosted by Stein Eriksen Lodge. (RSVP HERE)

Our 2017 nominees are: Cathy King, Heather Bigatel, Kirsten Fox, Lindsay Simpson, and Michelle Palmer. Read more about these incredible women below. Voting period ended Friday, April 7th:

WOTY_cathykingCathy King is nominated for the Woman of the Year award because... Cathy is the Director of Canine's with a Cause, a non-profit organization that trains dogs from shelters to be matched with veterans with PTSD. Many years ago Cathy took her love of animals to the next degree and created an organization that saves the dogs, the veterans and gives women prisoners a new talent by teaching them how to train the dogs prior to being placed with the veterans. She has also started a new program that will help children in the Children's justice center by allowing comfort dogs to be in the justice center to help the children feel safe and calm. Cathy has taken this organization from the ground up and used her love of animals to reach out to people and help them as well. Not only does Cathy run this organization, but she often takes her time off to go to other countries to help on missions with various goals. She has such a passion for helping people and animals; It’s been her whole life. I would like to nominate Cathy and recognize her for these passions.

WOTY_heatherbigatelHeather Bigatel is nominated for the Woman of the Year award because... She moved here with her family a few years back. Went through a difficult time personally but came out of that stress with a positive outlook and a new passion. She opened Pura Vida the first Aveda salon in Park City. She had numerous obstacles to getting her salon opened, but she did not give up. She is generous to the community having hosted an event to raise money for victims of DV, giving locals discounts and genuinely trying to make a difference. Heather’s background is in real estate and and studied communications and meditation at Regis University. She is a great woman and deserving of this award.

WOTY_kirstenfoxKirsten Fox is nominated for the Woman of the Year award because... Kirsten has been an integral woman in the Park City Community for years. An ambassador to Deer Valley and skiing as well as the entire wonderful town. Kirsten launched a very successful business, Fox School of Wine, which if you have ever attended, Mistress Fox combines the fun of wine tasting with humor (using many parochial school tools, like gold star stickers, detention slips, etc.), and captivates her audience. Fox School of Wine and her wine expertise continues to educate and entertain this community. She opened the Culinary Wine Institute in 2012 to help restaurants help their servers gain confidence in talking about wine. She's an amazing woman who has much to offer and has done much for this community! She is a breast cancer survivor, and was inspired by her journey to launch a third business, Uplift Gift, which creates comfort for women going through life's challenges. Kirsten has overcome cancer with a sense of humor and gone on to create this phenomenal loving company to serve others. She has taken her passions and turned them into her love of business from the Fox School of Wine, to the Culinary Wine Institute, to her latest business Uplift Gift. She is an entrepreneur with a capital E. Words that come to mind to best describe Kirsten are courageous, innovative, bright, kind and exceptional. Kirsten is also a great mom!

1Lindsay Simpson is nominated for the Woman of the Year award because... Lindsay is a dynamic, intelligent woman who loves to share her knowledge and expertise with other women. Her passion and drive has inspired numerous women throughout the Park City community.  She has served on the board of directors for Park City Women's Business Network over the last year. She was the founder of the Women's Leadership Coalition (WLC) with CEO Jill Layfield at Backcountry.com and created their first mentorship program focused on women in the workplace.  She dedicated herself to help guide women to become strong leaders and create a community where women could share ideas and inspire. She currently is the Marketing Director at a local agency, Axis41, that supports fortune 500 clientele such as Adobe, St Jude’s and KPMG.  She is incredibly caring and has committed herself to positively impacting the Park City community where she will go out of her way to help.  She is an active member of the OIWC and the Utah Wonder Women's Group which focuses on the top women business leaders in the state of Utah. In addition to her successful career, she is a loving and caring mother of 2 fabulous children.

WOTY_michellePalmerMichelle Palmer - is nominated for the Woman of the Year award because… Michelle has been a rock star in our Park City community for over 25 years. When you think about women in tourism that have truly influenced business in this town, you cannot have a conversation without including Michelle Palmer. She has held positions opening Canyons Resort, Zermatt and Deer Valley Lodging. She was the Director of Communication for Park City Mountain Resort during the Olympic Games, has been a major influence on the Marketing Advisory Committee for the Park City Chamber for many years as an avid volunteer, she was on the Board of Trustees for the Park City Jazz Festival and has been the Director of Sales for a local destination management company, for nearly a decade. Michelle's efforts through her daily work has truly influenced the tourism in Park City and Summit County, and supported the local businesses by driving more revenue to our community. She has championed Utah Women in Tourism bringing together and supporting other women in the tourism and hospitality community. Michelle is authentic, and works hard to keep the fabric of Park City in her soul in both her personal and professional life. Michelle Palmer should be recognized for Woman of the Year for what she has done to support local business and women in the industry.

IMG_2137Our February PCWBN Event landed precisely on Feb. 14th - Yep, Valentines Day! We made the most of it and hosted a beautiful monthly event at the Park City Yoga Studio. The pristine location was a perfect setting for an evening of learning the art of loving yourself through health and wellness.

After our members mingled, networked a bit, sipped some wine and enjoyed the sushi and treats, the yoga session came next. We were lucky to have a 30 minute chair yoga session – specifically designed for at work by Lisa Needham. Her "5 Minutes to a Blissful Day" was the perfect flow for any working professional. Check out our video of the event on Facebook and enjoy the recording of Lisa's incredible singing at the conclusion of our class. Simply Joyful!

Yoga was followed by dōTERRA stations for making your own bath salts and oil blends. Guided by Cindy LoPatriello, we enjoyed being educated on the importance of aroma-therapy and the uniqueness of essential oils in all aspects of your life. Guests enjoyed the take-home gift of the bath salts and custom roll-on essential oils. Enjoy our slideshow below.

Thankful as always to our sponsors (Park City Yoga Studio) and our fearless Board of Directors for yet another amazing PCWBN event. Don't miss our Next Event - March 14th 6-8pm (events are the 2nd Tuesday of every month).

November's PCWBN Networking event was a HUGE success. On the 2nd Tuesday of the month (11/8/16), we all escaped the stress of the election, by coming together at Assemble for an amazing night of wine tasting and networking. Nearly 50 members and guests of members gathered to connect and celebrate women in business, all the while fundraising for our annual scholarship foundation.

Kirsten Fox, Executive Sommelier from Fox School of Wines hosted a holiday wine pairing by sharing 3 wines that paired nicely with holiday foods. She graced us with her wealth of wine knowledge. Some information about the wines she presented are below:

    • #1: Dry Riesling - Fess Parker 2014, Santa Barbara County, CA - Off-dry wine with prominent peach, apricot and melon aromas and flavors, refreshing finish. ($9/bottle)
    • #2: Sangiovese Rosé - Yolumba Y Series 2013, South Australia - Pomegranate, rhubarb and cinnamon finishing with juicy, lip-smacking enjoyment. ($10/bottle)
    • #3 Syrah/Viognier - Yalumba 2014, South Australia - Exotic mix of aromas like cinnamon, black cherries and violet with flavors of rhubarb and spiced cake.

We are incredibly thankful to our event sponsors and donations:

    • Assemble Park City donated their amazing co-working space for the event. If you haven't been, make sure to go check it out - it's beautiful!
    • Sally Roberts, Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway and Karen Summerhays, Owner of The Summerhays Group were our November Event sponsors, and are incredibly thankful for their generosity.
    • Cindy LoPatriello donated a Do Terra consultation, essential oil starter kit and diffuser ($250 value) for the raffle, which was a HUGE hit and brought in one of our largest ticket sales for the year.
