    Park City Women's Network

    Park City Women's Business Network is a Nonprofit organization that supports women in business through education, networking and collaboration. The monthly meetings are a place where women can come to network, get education from speakers, hear informative panel discussions as well as collaborate and support each other through formatted networking events. In 1995, we began to dedicate funds to support college-bound females whose dreams are to pursue careers in various fields. This scholarship is a stringent process that begins every spring where over 80 applicants are guided by both the Park City Education Foundation and the Community Scholarship Counselor. Proceeds are awarded to outstanding high school female graduates who have demonstrated some of the following: leadership, scholastic achievement, team involvement, integrity, community service, work ethic and need.

    We kicked the New Year off with a bang with this incredible January Event last Tuesday Jan 16th. Money mentors, Kathleen Barlow and Dannielle Bryan masterfully taught our workshop on concurring limiting beliefs over money.

    The meeting was a workshop on conquering limiting beliefs over money. Dannielle and Kathleen taught the group on how to identify their financial limiting beliefs and work through how to overcome them going forward to live a more abundant life.

    Tuesday, November 14th will go down in PCWBN history as one of the most well attended events of the year. Over 80 ladies joined us for a night of wine tasting, networking, and meeting new friends at the beautiful Rockwell Room on Main St.

    Kirsten Fox, head of Fox School of Wines, lead us in a wine tasting tour of three wines, teaching us the 5 senses of wine tasting, and recommending classic food pairings for the holiday. Shop these great wines this holiday season:

    • MAN Family Vitners Chenin Blanc '16 - Coastal Region, South Africa - $9.08 - This wine was chosen because of its all-around, food-friendly flavor profile and high value for its price.     October marks yet another successful PCWBN Networking Event. On Tuesday, October 10th 2017 we gathered at the beautiful The Newpark Resort & Hotel, as they hosted our monthly meeting in the glorious Skybridge Lounge. 30+ members turned out to network, socialize, and bingo!

    We hosted a friendly game of "networking" bingo for free raffle tickets, and thoroughly enjoyed our time discovering who "drives a Prius" or "has blue eyes" or "has traveled to a foreign country recently". Thanks ALL for participating, it was a hoot!

    We welcomed 4 new members tonight: Kirsten Ericksen, Laura Montecot, Portia Naze, and Shannon Spangler. We thank you for your donation, as your membership fees go straight to our scholarship foundation goal of $25K.

    August's member event was simply amazing! Hosted on Tuesday, August 8th from 6-8pm at the amazing new Campos Coffee location at Park City Mountain.  The thank you’s go to Ian Pope, operations manager of Campos USA who provided a beautiful space for us to network, offered Nitro Cold brew espresso Martinis made with Beehive Vodka (and served with mini donuts made from Oliva’s donut place) and Cascara  Kombucha Gin Fizz.  Cascara, which means “husk,” “peel” or “skin” in Spanish, is the dried skins of coffee cherries. These pulped skins are collected after the seeds (aka coffee beans) have been removed from the cherries. 

    Ian then had platters of bites from Eva’s Bakery in SLC…we had quiche lorraine, hummus on baggettes, brie stuffed…, and some apricot & ham delectable!  http://evasbakeryslc.com/  is owned by Charlie Perry and one of Campos’s suppliers of goodies!

    Did you miss July's Networking event? If so, you really missed out. Skullcandy graciously hosted this absolutely incredible event on Tuesday July 11th at their new corporate headquarters. Sammy's Bistro catered the event, and with the addition of some "refreshments", we networked and enjoyed taking pics in the photo-booth provided by none other than our friend Kim from TapSnap.

    Skullcandy executives spoke to the group for a bit before raffling off some killer gifts and taking us on a tour of their new office space (including a skatepark, putting green, bandstand, and oh yeah maybe some desk space ;).     At PuraVida, it is their mission to "be present in the lives of those around us…giving respect and grace to one another and our community." With open arms, PC local Heather Bigatel, PCWBN member and Woman of the Year nominee, welcomed us into her Spa and Salon for a spectacular networking event.

    On Tuesday, June 13th over 30 members and their guests joined us for our monthly networking event hosted at the beautiful PuraVida Salon and Spa. We enjoyed light appetizers provided by a local chef and refreshments.     Do you miss the days when you could go onto Facebook and actually see posts in chronological order, from your actual FRIENDS, instead of just a feed full of ads or activity? Today technology infers so much of your preferences, assumes your likes/dislikes, or sets algorithms that dictate the content you consume.

    Well, here are a few tips to make your Facebook Feed, and your life for that matter, just a little bit more bearable...

    1. Update your notifications for your favorite pages

    Not seeing enough of your favorite pages, groups, or events? You can override the "Facebook algorithm" by modifying your News Feed preferences or turning on Notifications. Navigate to your favorite page (i.e. https://www.facebook.com/PCWBN/), make sure to "Like" the page, then click on "Following" to see posts first in your feed and get notified for Events, Videos, etc.

    Here's how:

    2. Block irrelevant Facebook ads

    When you see something you don’t like, block it. That stops that ad from showing up on your feed again. You're basically teaching Facebook what you like and dislike. It's like Pandora with it's "Thumbs up" and "Thumbs down", if you don't tell Pandora what music you like she ends up making some awful decisions on your behalf.

    They are only machines; give them a break!!

    3. Get notified when your favorite people post

    You know who your top friends and family are. Spend some time and go to each of their pages, update your "Following" preferences by selecting "See First" and "ALL" notifications. You will see such an improvement in the quality of your news feed.


    4. Hide or Unfollow a friend

    Do you have friends who post constantly, or you just need a temporary break from their political rants? Instead of 'unfriending' them simply "Hide" or "Unfollow" them straight from your news feed. This allows you to see fewer posts but not risking any drama with your friendship ;)

    Here’s how:


    5. Adjust your News Feed to "Most Recent"

    Tired of seeing the same old stuff on your News Feed? I would suggest adjusting it by clicking ‘News Feed’ on the top left hand corner of your profile -- then click "Most Recent."

    6. Create Shortcuts & Favorites

    In the left-hand rail of Facebook or hamburger menu on mobile, you have the option to create a "Shortcut" or bookmark for some of your favorite pages/groups. This helps add importance to that content so you'll see more of it.

    7. ENGAGE!!

    Surprisingly enough, the only thing that the Facebook algorithm really has figured out is that if you engage with people, events, pages, or content, it will actually show you more of it. WHAT A CONCEPT!!

    So LIKE that post, COMMENT on your friend's cute baby pic, SHARE your favorite non-profit event. If you do, you'll start to see more of it in your feed from those people or groups. Wild, huh?!?

    Stay Up To Date -

    Facebook is pretty good about keeping companies and their customers up to date with their technology changes. Stay "in-the-know" by reading sites like THIS.

    On Tuesday, April 11th, Park City Women's Business Network was proud to "crown" this year's Woman of the Year to Kirsten Fox. The incredibly, amazing, well deserving community woman was nothing short of inspiring. PCWBN recognizes business women throughout Park City who routinely inspire others, make the community a better place, possess impressive intelligence, commitment, talent, and compassion. Each year, many women are nominated for the Park City Woman of the Year distinction, an annual recognition of a standout woman in business, created in memory of Candy Erickson, a Park City Councilwoman and steadfast PCWBN participant who passed away in 2011.

    This year's event had an incredible turnout with nearly 100 guests, joining us to mix and mingle at the ever so gorgeous Stein Lodge. The three course lunch was simply divine in the beautiful new ballroom. We nearly met our annual fundraising goal between 15+ new member sign-ups, and Opportunity Raffle drawing.

    Our keynote, Beth Lawrence was phenomenal, which included some song-writing, humor, but overall inspiring and powerful words around using your voice and standing up for what you believe in and your worth. Enjoy some pictures below, and more recap to come soon.

    2017-04-14_2345  Kirsten Fox has been an integral woman in the Park City Community for years. An ambassador to Deer Valley and skiing as well as the entire wonderful town. Kirsten launched a very successful business, Fox School of Wine, which if you have ever attended, Mistress Fox combines the fun of wine tasting with humor (using many parochial school tools, like gold star stickers, detention slips, etc.), and captivates her audience. Fox School of Wine and her wine expertise continues to educate and entertain this community. She opened the Culinary Wine Institute in 2012 to help restaurants help their servers gain confidence in talking about wine. She's an amazing woman who has much to offer and has done much for this community! She is a breast cancer survivor, and was inspired by her journey to launch a third business, Uplift Gift, which creates comfort for women going through life's challenges. Kirsten has overcome cancer with a sense of humor and gone on to create this phenomenal loving company to serve others. She has taken her passions and turned them into her love of business from the Fox School of Wine, to the Culinary Wine Institute, to her latest business Uplift Gift. She is an entrepreneur with a capital E. Words that come to mind to best describe Kirsten are courageous, innovative, bright, kind and exceptional. Kirsten is also a great mom!
